Claudia Cardinale is an Italian actress and model.
Born in Tunis, French Tunisia, Claudia began her career in Italian movies and worked her way up to becoming an international star, bagging roles in French, British, and Hollywood movies over the years. Her striking looks and impressive stage presence made her a massive star, and she is known to be one of the most beautiful actresses in film history even today.
Read on to learn more interesting facts about the gorgeous Claudia Cardinale.
According to sources, Claudia Cardinale's net worth is around $10 million in 2021, which is not surprising owing to her massive success as an actress.
Unfortunately, we don't have an accurate figure on how much Claudia Cardinale earns per year.
Claudia Cardinale is 5 ft 6 in (168 cm) tall.
Claudia Cardinale is 84 years old as of 2022.
Claudia Cardinale was born with the name Claude Joséphine Rose Cardinale on April 15, 1938, in the neighborhood of La Goulette in Tunis, French Tunisia. Her parents were Yolande Greco, the daughter of the owners of a shipbuilding firm, and Francesco Cardinale, a railway worker. Both her parents had Sicilian roots, and she grew up speaking French, Tunisian Arabic, and Sicilian. She also has a younger sister named Blanche Cardinale.
Claudia attended Saint-Joseph-de-l'Apparition school of Carthage alongside Blanche, then went on to attend Paul Cambon School, where she studied with the dream of becoming a teacher. She was quite fascinated with the French actress Brigitte Bardot as a teenager, as were the girls around her.
She began acting during her time in school, acting in the short film 'Anneaux d'or' by French director René Vautier alongside her classmates. The film was screened at the Berlin Film Awards, and the success of the short film made her a local celebrity of sorts. The local interest, along with her stunning looks, led her to be spotted by French director Jacques Baratier, who offered her a small role in his film 'Goha'.
Though she was reluctant to accept the role because of the implications that the director chose her only because she was Tunisian and not because of her acting abilities, she appeared in the film, making her feature film debut. However, her career took afterward, during the 1957 Italian Cinema Week, when she won the title of Most Beautiful Italian Girl in Tunisia, the prize for which was a trip to the Venice Film Festival.
She was noticed by many film producers during the festival, who invited her to Rome to study at the Experimental Cinematography Center. She obliged; however, she returned home shortly after because she could not keep up with the acting assignments.
Claudia married Italian film producer Franco Cristaldi in 1966. Cristaldi adopted her son Patrick, who she had when she was just 19 years old. They parted ways in 1975, and Claudia went on to marry Pasquale Squitieri, who was also a film director.
The couple stayed married for 42 years until Squitieri died on February 18, 2017, at the age of 78. They have one daughter together.
After returning home from the Experimental Cinematography Center, Claudia signed an exclusive seven-year contract with the production company Vides. Her first movie under the contract was the criminal comedy 'Big Deal On Madonna Street', which made her known to the Italian public and earned her the name of La Fidanzata D'Italia (Italy's sweetheart).
She rose through the ranks, starting with minor roles and progressing to lead roles, with her natural beauty and dark, soulful eyes making her an international star. She has appeared in many European films and TV series over the years, like the Italian comedy film 'A Girl In Australia', 'One Russian Summer', the French film 'Little Girl In Blue Velvet', the French comedy 'Les Lions Sont Lâchés', the British film 'Escape To Athena', and many more.
She is probably most famous for appearing in the American comedy film 'The Pink Panther', which is also her first Hollywood film. After the success of the movie, she began to appear in more Hollywood films, notably 'Blindfold', 'Time Of Indifference' and 'The Professionals'. Her acting career is awe-inspiring, and has spanned over 70 years.
Cardinale is still very active in the film industry, with her latest appearance being in the Netflix series 'Rogue City' as Catarina Bastiani.
Claudia Cardinale is very outspoken about her support for LGBTQ+ rights and feminism and has been a UNESCO goodwill ambassador for the Defense of Women's Rights since 2000. She is known for her humanitarian nature and can be seen attending many charity events and supporting various causes.
Claudia has won many awards over the course of her long and fruitful career. She has received an honorary Golden Lion at the 1993 Venice Film Festival, an Honorary Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin Film Festival, the Golden Orange Best Actress Award at the 47th Antalya Golden Orange International Film Festival, a Nastro D'Argento for Best Actress at the 1984 Venice International Film Festival and many more.
