Cliff Burton was an American bassist born on February 10, 1962, in Castro Valley, California, in the United States.

Clifford Lee Burton is the son of Ray Burton, an assistant highway engineer in San Francisco, and Jan Burton, a teacher. Cliff Burton had been passionate about music since childhood.

Cliff Burton completed his primary education at Earl Warren Junior High School and Castro Valley High School. During his school years, he formed a band called EZ Street. Later, he joined Chabot College in Hayward, California. During his college years, he started his second band, called Agents of Misfortune. In 1982, he joined his professional band called Trauma and recorded his first track, 'Such A Shame'. With Trauma, he gained a lot of fame.

Cliff Burton joined Metallica, an American heavy metal band. On September 27, 1986, Cliff Burton died in a fatal bus crash in Dorarp, Sweden. Soon after his death, Flotsam and Jetsam's Jason Newsted became Metallica's new bassist. Cliff Burton's style was always unique, as he used to perform wearing bell-bottoms, headbanging, and waving his blonde hair, which used to entrance his audience and whip them up into a frenzy.
