Career And Professional Highlights

Best Known For…

Dave Vanian is best known for being the lead vocalist of the English rock band 'The Damned.'

Vanian is one of the founding members of The Damned alongside guitarist Brian James, bassist, and guitarist Raymond Ian Burns, aka Captain Sensible, and drummer Christopher John Millar aka Rat Scabies. Three of the band's founding members, including Vanian, were initially in the band 'Masters Of The Backside,' after which they left and formed 'The Damned' in 1976.

They played their first show on July 6, 1976, as the supporting artists for a well-known punk rock band at that time, after which they began to gain popularity. They signed with Stiff Records, who released the band's first single, 'New Rose' on October 22, making them the first ever punk band from the UK to release a single.

The band released their first album 'Damned Damned Damned,' on February 18, 1977, closely followed by 'Music For Pleasure' on November 18 of the same year. As of 2022, The Damned has released 11 studio albums and starred in the 2015 documentary 'The Damned: Don't You Wish That We Were Dead.'

The band has been in action for over 40 years and celebrated its 40th anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall in May 2016. The band continues to make music and perform with its current members Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Paul Gray, Monty Oxymoron, and Will Taylor.
