Ferrer was raised in the Alicante district of Xàbia but relocated to Gandia at 13 years.
Then they shifted to Barcelona shortly afterward to study at the famous federation called Catalan Tennis Federation. Ferrer's coach, Javier Piles, once punished him when he didn't play hard enough as a youngster, offering him only a small piece of bread and some water.
