The former 19-year-old student of the same school entered the school campus with a rifle due to which the fire alarm was activated. Hogg informed his teacher that the continuous pop sound was sounding like gunshots. The students tried to exit the building. However, the janitor exempted them. On the urge of culinary arts teacher, the students hid in the closet.

Hogg scrolled through his social media to find out that the shooting was happening at his school. He captured the scene and interviewed the other students hiding in the closet in the event that they were unable to sustain the shooting. After an hour, the students were escorted by the SWAT team. On the same day, he reunited with his father and sister.

Hogg emerged as a leader of the United States Gun Violence protests in 2018. He raised his opinion on gun control and gun violence. He also established a student-led group 'Never Again MSD'.
