Deepak Chopra is an author and alternative medicine advocate.
Deepak Chopra was born on October 22, 1946, in New Delhi, British India. He undertook ayurvedic practices after Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's advice.
Chopra emigrated to the United States with his wife as the Indian government banned its doctors to appear for the exam if they were going to practise in the United States. Chopra traveled to Sri Lanka to give an exam and passed. Then, he went to the USA and did an internship at the Muhlenberg Hospital, Plainfield, New Jersey. There, doctors from across the world were hired to replace those in Vietnam.
Chopra completed his residencies in internal medicine in Boston at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts, the VA Medical Center, St Elizabeth's Medical Center, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center during the period of 1971-1977. He became board certified in medicine and specialized in endocrinology after achieving his license to practise medicine in Massachusetts in 1973. Chopra's business sells a variety of alternative medicine products such as videos, herbal supplements, books, massage oils, and courses. His Chopra Foundation carries out numerous research on spiritual healing, alternative medicine, and education.
Chopra has a net worth of $150 million.

Chopra is born on October 22, 1946, in New Delhi, India during the British rule. He is born to parents Krishan Lal Chopra, who was at New Delhi's Moolchand Khairati Ram Hospital as head of the department of medicine and cardiology, and Pushpa Chopra. His paternal grandfather served in the British Indian Army as a sergeant and his father also served in the British army, at the front of Burma as a lieutenant and army doctor. He was also the medical adviser to the viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten. Sanjiv Chopra, the younger brother, is a professor and on staff at the Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre.
Chopra went to the St. Columba's School, New Delhi. In 1969, He completed his graduation at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
Chopra married Rita Chopra in 1970 in India. In the same year, Chopra and his wife emigrated to the United States. The couple has two children together; Mallika Chopra and Gotham Chopra.
Chopra is best known as an alternative medicine advocate and author. He has written the books 'Quantum Healing: Exploring the Frontiers of Mind/Body Medicine', 'Timeless Mind: The Quantum Alternative to Growing Old', and 'Perfect Health: The Complete Mind/Body Guide', 'The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success', among others.
Chopra's first six months of being a doctor who had just completed graduation were spent in the rural area of India where he also wrote about the village's power cut every time there was rainfall. During the initial years of his profession, Chopra Studied endocrinology, especially neuroendocrinology, in order to search for a biological basis for emotions and thoughts' influence.
In Boston, Chopra established a private practise in endocrinology. Henceforth, he started teaching medicine at Boston University, Harvard University, and Tufts University. At the New England Memorial Hospital, Stoneham, Massachusetts, which is renamed Boston Regional Medical Center, he became Chief of Staff.
On the advice of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the leader of the TM movement, Chopra left his job at NEMH saying numerous drugs are of slight welfare.
Chopra founded the American Association of Ayurvedic Medicine and Maharishi Ayur-Veda Products International. He was the founding president, co-founder, and medical director at the respective organizations. The centers provided the Ayurveda cleansing services like enemas, oil baths, and massages, charging between $2,850-$3,950 each week. Celebrities who were being treated there include Elizabeth Taylor. Chopra became a spokesperson in the TM movement.
Chopra went to California in 1993 to Sharp HealthCare's Institute for Human Potential and Mind/Body Medicine as an executive director. Its clinic is in Del Mar, an exclusive resort in California. Their clients include Micheal Jackson's family. Michael Jackson and Chopra became good friends in 1988. On July 12, 1993, Chopra appeared for an interview on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show.' In a conversation with Robert Todd Carroll, he revealed that Chopra left TM organization when it got stressful and posed an obstacle to his success.
In 2004, he got his license of practicing medicine in California. Since 2014, he has been associated with Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla in California. Chopra owns the Chopra Centre, wherein treatments like sleep-wake cycles, stress management, and nutrition, based on Ayurveda and mainstream medicine are treated.
Chopra left Sharp HealthCare and began to set up the Chopra Center with neurologist David Simon in California.
Chopra has been awarded the title of Dhanvantari of Heaven and Earth by Maharishi.
