Edi Rama was born as Edvin Kristaq Rama on July 4, 1964.
Edi Rama is a famous politician, accomplished painter, former professor, excellent writer, and publicist from Albania who was elected the Prime Minister of Albania in 2013. He is also Chairman of Albania's Socialist Party since 2005.
He was also a standout athlete who has played professional basketball for the Albanian national team. Edi Rama is also a talented painter who has shown his work at several painting exhibitions.
Edi Rama held many official positions before becoming Prime Minister in 2013. In 1998, Edi was named Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, which he maintained until 2000. Edi Rama was elected Mayor of Tirana for the first time in 2000 and re-elected in 2003 and 2007.
In the 2013 parliamentary election, the center-left coalition under Rama's leadership defeated the center-right coalition led by Sali Berisha, Prime Minister of the Democratic Party of Albania. Following the 2017 election, Rama was re-elected as Prime Minister once again. Edi Rama secured a third term in office after defeating Albania's Democratic Party's Lulzim Basha in the 2021 parliamentary elections twice consecutively.

Edi Rama was born in Tirana, Albania, to Kristaq and Aneta Rama on July 4, 1964. His father, Kristaq Rama, was a well-known sculptor from Durrs who made numerous statues in Albania during communism. Kristaq Rama, Edi's great-grandfather with the same name as his father's, fought for Albania's independence and schools for children. Edi's mother, Aneta Rama, studied medicine in Vuno, a southwestern village.
Edi Rama began drawing while he was a toddler. Edi Hila and Danish Jukniu, two renowned painters from Albanian of the period, recognized his painting skills during his early life. They urged Rama to pursue his passion for painting professionally. He studied art at the Jordan Misja Artistic Lyceum in Tirana and graduated with honors. Rama also participated in sports as a teenager, and he was a professional basketball player for Dinamo Tirana. He played for the Albanian national team, also. He registered in Tirana's Academy of Arts in 1982.
Edi Rama worked at the Academy of Arts as an educator after finishing with a degree in fine arts. During this period, he organized multiple student meetings when at the same time, the Albanian communists were publicly chastised.
Rama tried multiple times before communism in Albania fell to participate in the nascent democratic movement. He attempted to sway the protests by students to join Albania's newly formed Democratic Party but quickly quit following a disagreement with Sali Berisha over ideological issues.
Edi Rama relocated to France in 1994 to pursue a profession in painting. His work with Anri Sala, a former student, was shown in several galleries.
Edi Rama was first married to an actress Matilda Makoci but the couple divorced in 1991. Together they have a son, Gregor.
Linda Rama, who is an economist, and activist, married Rama in 2010. Linda Rama has a master's degree in economics from the University of Tirana. Their son, Zaho, was born in 2014.
Edi Rama was presented cabinet position by Fatos Nano, the Prime Minister of Albania at that time, in 1998. Later that year, he was named the Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports in the Albanian government.
Edi Rama was sponsored by Albania's Socialist Party when he stood in the elections for Mayor of Tirana in October 2000 against Besnik Mustafaj, a diplomat and writer, who was the Democratic Party's nominee. Rama was named the Mayor after receiving 57% votes. Rama was re-elected Mayor of Tirana in 2003 and 2007, defeating former attorney and Democratic Party of Albania nominee. The driving force behind his elections was his campaign for the return of public order during this time.
In the 2013 parliamentary election, Edi Rama's Socialist Party led a coalition of center-left parties to a resounding win, ousting the center-right coalition of Prime Minister Sali Berisha. Since September of 2013, Edi Rama has been the Prime Minister of Albania.
Edi Rama gained international acclaim for painting the exterior of several of the city's demolished Soviet-style structures. This gave the city a distinct look and transformed it into a popular tourist destination.
Edi Rama received the World Mayor Prize in 2004.
Edi Rama is an accomplished painter and has held various painting exhibitions in New York City, France, Berlin, Brazil, Israel, and Albania.
Edi Rama is also an active writer. In 1992, Rama published the book 'Refleksione' with Ardian Klosi.
