Kristaq Rama, Edi's great-grandfather with the same name as his father's, fought for Albania's independence and schools for children. Edi Rama began drawing while he was a toddler. Edi Hila and Danish Jukniu, two renowned painters from Albanian of the period, recognized his painting skills during his early life. Rama was named the Mayor after receiving 57% votes. Rama was re-elected Mayor of Tirana in 2003 and 2007, defeating former attorney and Democratic Party of Albania nominee. The driving force behind his elections was his campaign for the return of public order during this time.
