Felipe López joined the Rice High School in Manhattan, New York City, and it was there that he began shaping his basketball career.

Further, Felipe López also signed a free agent contract with Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves. He'd have played many regular games with them, but on October 19, 2002, while playing in a basketball game for Minnesota Timberwolves, Felipe López collided with Paul Pierce.
