Gerald Green is an American basketball player best known for his dunking skills.
Born and brought up in Houston, Texas, America, Green was born on January 26, 1986. A professional basketball player for 'Rio Grande Valley Vipers', Gerald Green is a shooting guard with the best vertical leap of 39 in (99 cm).
Young Green's career was set in stone when he quickly realized where his true passion was when he began playing varsity basketball in high school. His journey in the field took off from his high school days, and since then, Gerald Green has played for various NBA teams. He was initially signed by the club 'Celtics' in 2005, where he continued to prove himself as a worthy player until he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The NBA champion has never had a very stable run in any team per se, but he has played and won victories for some of the biggest clubs in basketball history, such as the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, New Jersey Nets, and many more. He has also represented Russia and China in international basketball leagues. Despite his migration to many teams, it is Houston Rockets, his home team, where Gerald Green has been most loved and appreciated.
Gerald Green has had a rather long-running career in basketball. During his 15 years of professional playing, he has played for 15 different clubs. He has an estimated net worth of $20 million and is considered to be one of the richest basketball players of our time.
The NBA star has played for some of the most prominent and well-known clubs in basketball, such as the Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Houston rockets. Nevertheless, it was Houston Rockets that helped him take his career to a whole new level. The yearly salary of the shooting guard at Houston Rockets was $1.5 million, while his final year at the club earned him a whopping $2.3 million.
The height of the basketball player, Gerald Green, who hails from Houston, Texas, is approximately 6 ft 6 in (198 cm).
Green celebrates his birthday every year on January 26. Born in 1986, Green is 36 years of age as of 2022.
Gerald Green is the son of Gerald Green and Brenda Green. Garlon Green, his younger brother, is an NBA player who plays basketball for 'Hapoel Tel Aviv' in the 'Israeli Premier League.' Danny Green, his second cousin who also happens to be an NBA player, is a shooting guard for the 'Toronto Raptors.' The NBA star also has two sisters named Delonya and Terika Green.
Green's ring finger on his right hand is mostly absent. When Gerald was 11, he was playing basketball, wearing a ring that belonged to his mother. As he attempted to dunk, the ring got stuck in a nail on the rim of the makeshift basketball hoop. The finger had to be amputated after it was torn up. This accident was a severe setback for the would-be NBA star, and Green did not play competitive basketball again until his sophomore year. Green initially received his schooling from J. Frank Dobie High School, where he also played as junior varsity. But due to academic stress, Green could not devote enough time to the game. It was around this time he shifted to an independent or charter school named Gulf Shores Academy High School. Upon enrolling in Gulf Shores Academy, Green not only repeated his junior year but also began to play the ball more seriously. Gerald Green was slated to enroll in Oklahoma State University after the completion of his graduation, but he went on to join the 2005 'NBA Draft'.
Gerald Green, the NBA basketball player, is not a married person. His love life, however, is a raging topic of discussion among his fans. Green has been spotted with Dorislyn Martinez on multiple occasions. In fact, the pair were even seen together at the Phoenix Suns charity event in 2014. Even so, Dorislyn's identity and her relationship with Green continue to be widely speculated by his fans. Gerald is a private person when it comes to his love life, so he is yet to confirm or deny the rumors surrounding his dating life. The NBA champion is the father of three sons named Jeremiah, Julius, and Silas. The name of the children's mother remains unknown.
Gerald Green has had an impressive career ever since he was selected the 18th overall in the 'NBA Draft' by the 'Boston Celtics' way back in 2005. He proved himself a formidable player on the court when he scored eight points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the 'Celtics' during his debut season in the 'Las Vegas Summer League.' The 'Celtics' assigned him to the 'NBA D-League' in January 2006, and thus began his illustrious career in the world of sports.
Green has always had a thing for slam dunk competitions. He emerged victorious at the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2007, defeating the likes of Nate Robinson, Tyrus Thomas, and Dwight Howard in February 2007. The year 2007 turned out to be a career-defining year for him as he scored 25 points in March 2007 before securing a career-high score of 33 points in April 2007. Green made a smashing opening at the 2008 NBA Slam Dunk Contest with a dunk known as 'The Birthday cake dunk' which involved him blowing out the candles of a birthday cake while attempting a dunk. Despite his impressive gameplay, Green was a runner-up to Dwight Howard in the 2008 contest.
After being dismissed from 'Houston Rockets,' in March 2008, Green became a free agent. He changed clubs frequently and preferred not to devote himself to any one particular team. He went on to sign deals with various international teams such as Dallas Mavericks in 2008, a Russian team named PBC Lokomotiv Kuban in 2009, and the Foshan Dralions in 2011.
2011 marked the return of Green to the NBA as he signed a contract with the popular club Los Angeles Lakers and then Los Angeles D-Fenders. In 2012, Gerald joined the New Jersey Nets and Indiana Pacers and also participated in his third slam dunk competition. Green was back to his best form by 2013 when he was signed by the Phoenix Suns, where he scored career-high scores of 36 points and 41 points against the teams 'Denver Nuggets' and 'Oklahoma City Thunder'. Green joined the 'Miami Heat' in July 2015 and led the team to many victories. In July 2016, he signed with the 'Boston Celtics' before returning to his hometown team 'Houston Rockets' in 2018, where he also retired as a coach. However, Gerald Green cut short his retirement plans on January 8, 2022, to join the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, a club he continues to play for currently.
Green is well-known for his NBA achievements. However, he is known to be a man of class off the court as well. When Hurricane Harvey, a category four storm, wrought destruction in Texas and Louisiana in 2018, it caused $125 billion in damage. Green promised to come to the aid of the people of Texas in order to ensure the community could recover from their losses. Green has also made a number of donations to different charities and organizations, which he has kept hidden to protect his own privacy.
Gerald Green has won the 2005 McDonald's All-American Slam Dunk Contest, the 2007 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, and finished second in the 2008 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.
Green is a rather private person and prefers to keep his personal life away from the public eye. The NBA star has, however, expressed interest in rapping and has confessed to loving hip-hop and deriving much inspiration from the music genre.
Right before Valentine's Day on February 13, 2020, Green shared a picture of a mystery woman on his official Instagram account. However, the picture provided no clarity as the post had no caption, and the comments were disabled.
