Glenn Tipton was born in Staffordshire, England, to Dough Tipton and Olive Tipton. He started his schooling at Olive Hill Primary School and has a brother, Gary Tipton. Gary was a guitarist for a local band. Glenn was initially taught to play the guitar by his mother, and he started playing the instrument when he was 19.
Glenn Tipton is married and has two children, Rick Tipton and Karina Tipton. His two children are also both musicians and were a part of the solo album released by him called 'Baptizm Of Fire'.
Glenn Tipton started his music career with the hard rock band 'Shave 'Em Dry.' The musician from England eventually went on to join Judas Priest in 1974, where he was joined by Scott Travis, Richie Faulkner, Ian Hill, and Rob Halford. Tipton was motivated by drummer Barry Scrannage joining another hard rock band called 'Bullion,' which fueled him to add more complex guitar solos in his recordings. He released the album 'Sad Wings On Destiny', which contained songs such as 'Prelude,' 'The Ripper,' and 'Epitaph.' His song 'Baptizm Of Fire', released by Tipton, continues to be one of the best solo albums available in the rock genre.
One of the best works of his career was the album 'British Steel', which combined heavy metal with pop influences, creating something markedly different. 'Judas Priest' underwent a reform in 1996 with new vocalist Tim Owens. The new version was released in the albums 'Demolition' and 'Jugulator.' Glenn Tipton was the primary songwriter for 'Judas Priest.'
Glenn Tipton also released another solo album titled 'Edge Of The World'. He has also been a guest star for the albums of the band 'The Nixon' and that of Samantha Fox. He worked with the latter 'Spirit Of America.' He has also recorded for the video game 'Brutal Legend.' He has been ranked in the 19th position in the list of top 100 metal guitarists released by 'Hit Parader' and in number 25 on the same list released by Joel Mclver.
Guitarist Glenn Tipton has supported the people living with Parkinson's disease, having launched the Glenn Tipton Parkinson's Foundation. Having suffered from the disease himself, his foundation pledges to raise funds to discover a new form of treatment for the disease. Glenn Tipton has also supported the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Apart from playing the guitar, Glenn Tipton also likes to play golf and tennis. He has played with KK Downing, his former 'Judas Priest' bandmate and drummer. The guitarist from England has also played golf with Def Leppard.
