The show producers said that he fell and lost consciousness while participating in a team event and died at the hospital on November 27, 2019, in Ningbo, China. Zhejiang Television stated that they were sorry and deeply regretful for the sorrows that this incident has caused and are liable to take up the responsibility. Gao's body was taken to a funeral home on November 28, 2019, and brought to Taiwan on December 2, 2019.
Gao's funeral was held as a Buddhist ceremony in Taiwan on December 15, 2019. His remains are laid to rest at Chin Pao San. He was an active member on Instagram, having many followers. His demise at the age of 35 was shocking to the entertainment industry and his fans worldwide.
In 2017, Gao won the Golden Angels Awards for the Most Popular Actor for his work 'The Jade Pendant'. He was also nominated for Best Actor in California for 'Back in the Box'.
Then he was nominated for and won the Most Popular Actor at the 2019 Weibo TV Series Awards for his role in 'The Gravity of a Rainbow'. The nomination was made about 20 minutes before he collapsed on the Chinese game show.
Godfrey Gao, born in Taiwan, had an interest in hip hop, and besides being a DJ and model, he liked to play basketball and rode a motorcycle through the scenic mountain roads to enjoy the countryside.
