Hilton Carter is an American filmmaker, plant stylist, interior designer, and author.
While drawing and filmmaking became major parts of his life, Hilton Carter started to develop his skills in the styling and design space. Out of this passion for creating and sharing his art, his website, 'Things by HC,' was born.
Hilton Carter discovered his true calling as a plant stylist while working for an advertising agency. His humble beginnings with a few succulents in New Orleans have grown into an empire - or, more accurately, a 'green empire'. He has garnered massive popularity there for his botany and plant-care photo blogging through interior design tutorials.
Having earned his bachelor's degree at Maryland Institute College of Art, Hilton Carter, a plant enthusiast, is renowned for his devotion to and support of all things floral. Through this special collection for 'Target', this passionate artist and visual storyteller hope to encourage the green thumb in every one of us.
Hilton Carter is also an Instagram Star and has gained fame for his eponymous Instagram handle name, hiltoncarter. He has over 543000 followers on his official Instagram handle as of 2022. His Instagram account majorly features his favorite 'green pet', 'Frank'.
Hilton Carter has an approximate net worth of $10 million.
The annual income of Hilton Carter is not available.
Hilton Carter stands 5 ft 8 in (173 cm) tall.
Born on December 3, 1979, Hilton Carter is 43 years old as of 2022.
Hilton Carter was born in Baltimore, Maryland.
Hilton Carter earned his bachelor's degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He completed his MFA in film from the Pasadena, California-based Art Center College of Design.
Hilton Carter is married to Dr. Fiona Vismans, who is a dentist. They have a one-year-old daughter Holland.
In 2011, Hilton Carter, who had previously worked as a freelance filmmaker, was struck by the concept of plant parenting. He was in Pennsylvania because he was filming advertisements for the retirement community 'Erickson'. He stopped for lunch at a garden cafe in Glen Mills in between rounds of campaigning. Hilton was taken by the restaurant's decor and decided to replicate it in his Los Angeles home.
Hilton Carter returned to Los Angeles and started looking for a suitable location for plant parenting. He lacked the resources at the time to acquire the necessities. Hilton relocated to New Orleans in 2014, where he expanded his knowledge of plant maintenance in a closed environment. He purchased a golden pothos and a few succulents in his neighborhood's French quarter.
Five floor-to-ceiling windows in the location were ideal for his 'green pets'. A few months later, Hilton named a huge fiddle leaf fig 'Frank' and added staghorn ferns to his nursery. He still owns the plant, which is affectionately referred to as 'Treezus', and it is one of his favorites.
Hilton Carter returned to his hometown and grew his environmental work there. He discovered an old cotton mill in Whitehall Mill to accommodate his plants, a short distance from Jones Falls. Stone columns and the original wood floors in the space complement his bohemian style. He was captivated by the mill's location because it provided him with a fantastic view of the river and had big windows to let in ample natural light.
Although he now has a little more than 280 plants, Hilton Carter has only given names to 15. His style and personality are evident in the visually pleasing plant-themed decor. He refers to it as 'Jungle By The Falls' in his Whitehall Mill studio.
Hilton Carter has now created a space for local chefs to showcase their culinary skills for his 'Service at the Jungle' series, which is a dinner service set in the middle of a jungle. Hilton’s house in Hampden is also decorated with plants.
Hilton Carter, referred to as 'The Plant Doctor', contributes to the @iplanteven Instagram account, which is devoted to plants and is run by Apartment Therapy.
Additionally, Hilton Carter runs an online store where he sells his original vessels as well as various plant prints and accessories.
Hilton Carter published his first book, titled 'Wild At Home: How To Style And Care For Beautiful Plants', in April 2019. The book offers advice on plant parenting as well as a look inside his home.
Hilton Carter has got three pets, two cats and a dog.
