His father was the sole breadwinner who worked at a garment factory. Jack Kirby was a self-taught comic book artist and was inspired by Alex Raymond, Milton Caniff, and Hal Foste. He worked on different projects including character creations of 'The Fantastic Four', 'The Hulk', 'Thor', and 'Captain America'.
Jack Kirby was a popular artist who worked with big names like Marvel and DC. His net worth at the time of his death could be estimated at approximately $10 million.
He never had a fixed income, however, his art was very popular and he lived a lavish lifestyle.

Jack Kirby decided to leave high school at the age of 16 to work in an animation studio for Max Fleischer. He then enrolled himself in Brooklyn's Pratt Institute when he was just 14, only to leave it after a week.
Jack Kirby married his wife Rosalind Goldstein on May 23, 1942. The couple had four children together, Susan, Neal, Barbara, and Lisa.
Jack Kirby started his career at the age of 16, when he and Joe Simons, another artist worked on cartoons of Popeye at an animation studio. He is best known for his work of creating characters and stories with Marvel, DC, Disney, and other Hollywood Studios.
The duo then worked for Marvel comics which was earlier known as 'Atlas Comics' and created the popular character, Captain America. They went on to work together on several other projects of different genres. In 1947, they created one of their best romance comics. Soon the market became competitive and it became difficult for them to work together. By 1956, the pair separated. He went on to work on several characters of the Avengers including The Hulk, Black Panther, and many more. Kirby left Marvel due to his differences with Stan Lee in 1970 and joined DC comics.
His comic storytelling was so popular that the writer came to be known as 'The King of Comics.'
Jack Kirby has received a lot of honors and appreciation for his work. Some awards that he has won are the Alley Award for best artist (1967), Favorite Short Story (1963), Best Novel and Best New Strip of Book (1964), Best Short Story (1965), Best Professional Work (1966, 1967, 1968). Most of these awards were won along with Stan Lee for their amazing work in the comic books of the Marvel Universe.
He also won the Shazam Award in 1971 for Special Achievement by an individual. He won an Inkpot Award in 1974. In the 1993 Eisner Awards, he received the Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award.
He was given the Bill Finger Award in 2017, after his death.
His passion was drawing from the very beginning.
