He is a distinguished American writer who has published over 50 volumes of children's poetry. Jack Prelutsky also became the first U. S. Children's Poet (now known as the Young People's Poet Laureate) in 2006 and held the position until 2008.
Prelutsky completed his basic education at The High School of Music & Art. He then went to Hunter College but dropped out two years later.
Prelutsky began his career as a cab driver, potter, salesman, woodworker, and busboy. His professional career as a poet began in 1967 with the publication of 'A Gopher In The Garden And Other Animal Poems'. As of 2022, Prelutsky has over 50 poetry collections to his name and has a net worth of $5 million.

Prelutsky claims that he also hated poetry as a boy. Later, his teachers became aware of his musical talents and sent him to The High School of Music & Art. In 1958, Prelutsky graduated from school and enrolled at Hunter College. However, he dropped out in 1960.
Jack Prelutsky married Carolynn Prelutsky in 1979, and the couple has been together since then. As of 2022, Jack and Carolynn Prelutsky reside in Seattle, Washington.
Jack Prelutsky is considered to be one of the greatest American poets of all time. Some of his most popular works include 'The New Kid On The Block', 'Ride A Purple Pelican', 'The Beauty Of The Beast: Poems From The Animal Kingdom', 'Behold The Bold Umbrellaphant And Other Poems', and 'The Swamps Of Sleethe: Stories From Beyond The Solar System'. In addition to writing children's poetry, Prelutsky has also compiled and edited a good number of children's anthologies.
Prelutsky's most notable awards include the 2006 Children's Poet Laureate award from the Poetry Foundation and the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award from Washington Poets.
