The renowned chef Pepin was born on December 18, 1935, in Bourg-en-Bresse, France. He has two brothers, and his parents are Jeannette and Jean-Victor Pépin. His parents opened a restaurant named Le Pélican after world war II, and Pepin worked when he was a child. Later he became well-known for his fondness for food. During his initial teen years, he did his apprenticeship at Le Grand16, Pepin traveled to Paris and age of 16, Pepin traveled to Paris and got trained under Lucien Diat at the Plaza Athenee. During his military service from 1956-1958, Jacques Pepin was recognized for possessing culinary skills and training and was ordered to work in the office of the treasury, where Pepin met Jean-Claude Szurdak, his cooking partner. He then became the personal chef of three French presidents, including Charles De Gaulle. He graduated from Columbia University with a degree in bachelor of arts.
In 1966, Jacques Pepin wedded Gloria Evelyn Augier, who he met when he was working as a ski instructor. She passed away on December 20, 2020. The couple has a daughter named Claudine. Jacques Pepin currently lives in Madison.
During the mid-'70s, Jacques Pepin reinvented himself as an author, educator, and eventually a television personality. In 1976, he authored his cookbook 'La Technique' and 'La Methode' in 1979. He used hundreds of photos, illustrating the methods and techniques required to achieve particular culinary results. Chefs like Tom Colicchio and others appreciated these books. Jacques Pepin, Alain Saihlac, and Andre Soltner were invited to become the deans for the newly opened culinary skills, the French Culinary Institute in New York, presently known as the International Culinary Center (IIC).
Jacques filmed his first television series in 1992 with PBS local station WJCT-TV in Jacksonville. He also published a companion cookbook titled 'Everyday cooking with Jacques Pepin'. In 1981, he associated with Rebecca Alssid and Julia Child to create a culinary certificate program within the metropolitan college at Boston University. It is one of the few master's degrees in Gastronomy. During 1994 and 1996, Jacques Pepin and Julia appeared in 90 minutes PBS specials, 'More cooking in concert' and 'Cooking in Concert', filmed live. KQED-TV in San Francisco has produced all its programs.
Jacques Pepin and Julia Child won the Daytime Emmy award. The cook has received three of the French government's honors: He is a Chevalier de L'Ordre Du Merite Agricole(1992) and Chevalier de L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres(1997). Pepin received France's Legion D'honneur in October 2004. He also won 24 James beard foundation awards. On May 22, 2011, Pepin received an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters from Boston University. Pepin received an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters from Columbia University in 2017. Pepin was honored with the American Public Television's lifetime achievement award.
