William James Remar was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Remar has played the role of villain in a number of films and television episodes since his acting debut in 1978.
Albert Ganz in '48 Hrs.' (1982), Ajax in 'The Warriors' (1979), Dutch Schultz in 'The Cotton Club' (1984), Jack Duff in 'Miracle On 34th Street' (1994), and Harry Morgan, father of the lead character in 'Dexter' (2006–2013) are some of his notable roles. In 2010, he appeared in guest appearances on The CW's 'The Vampire Diaries' as Giuseppe Salvatore and on 'FlashForward' as James Ermine, a commander for Jericho, a black-ops military contractor. He also replaced Steve Blum as the voice of Vilgax in the animated television series 'Ben 10: Alien Force' and 'Ben 10: Ultimate Alien'. He had made a guest appearance in 2010 on 'Private Practice' as Gibby, a physician who volunteers with Doctors Without Borders. Remar was cast as Peter Gambi in the superhero thriller 'Black Lightning' on July 23, 2017.
