Career And Professional Highlights

Best Known For…

Jane Wiedlin, Belinda Carlisle, Elissa Bello, and Margot Olavarria created the 'Misfits' punk band in 1978, which was eventually renamed 'The Go-Go's.' Charlotte Caffey, likely the only trained musician in the group and could read musical notes, joined them after a few months. They began performing at other locations soon after, and their popularity grew. Their former companions began criticizing them for selling out. They continued to play outside of California and were no longer considered a part of Hollywood punks.

'The Go-Go's' band organized a tour of England in 1980 and landed a contract with IRS Records in 1981, launching their debut album, 'Beauty And The Beat,' later that year. 'Our Lips Are Sealed' was one of the album's most successful songs, co-written by Jane Wiedlin and Terry Hall. 'Our Lips Are Sealed' was a massive smash, reaching No. 20 on the Billboard charts and lasting until 1982. The song became part of number 15 on the Top Rock Tracks list in BillBoard and ten on the dance chart. It was equally successful internationally and reached No. 4 in the United Kingdom.

They launched their second studio album, 'Vacation,' on August 11, 1982, which not only reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 (USA) but was well-certified Gold by the RIAA. Following that came the 'Talk Show,' released on March 19, 1984, and reached number 18 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Jane Wiedlin departed from 'The Go-Go's' in October 1984 to explore a solo career, and her debut solo studio album was released in October 1985 and was named 'Jane Wiedlin.' It gained mixed reviews, and the lead single, 'Blue Kiss,' peaked at number 77 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 30 on Hot Dance Club Play.

In 1985, Jane Wiedlin made her film debut in the comedy-mystery film 'Clue,' where she played the role of a singing telegram girl. She later appeared in 'Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home' in 1986 as Officer Trillya and in 'Sleeping Beauty' as the White Fairy in 1987.

Her sophomore album, 'Fur,' was released in April 1988. It was composed over two years and included ten tracks. Two tracks, 'Rush Hour' and 'Inside a Dream,' were set to release as singles and charted on the Billboard Hot 100. The album spent the following 21 weeks on the Billboard 200 in the United States.

In 1990, Jane released 'Tangled,' her third studio album. The next album, entitled 'The Very Best of Jane Wiedlin' compilation recordings, was released in 1993. Simultaneously, in 1989, she appeared in her fourth film, 'Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure,' playing the role of Joan of Arc.

Jane Wiedlin founded another pop-punk band, 'Frosted,' in 1995 and performed live in locations such as Los Angeles and San Francisco. The band played their final gig on March 31, 1998, and then disbanded. Meanwhile, they released their only album, 'Cold' in 1996, which failed to chart.

'Kissproof World,' her fourth solo studio album, was launched in 2000. In that particular year, Jane also reconnected with her The Go-Go's bandmates, going on multiple countrywide tours alongside them, the latest of which was in 2011. Meanwhile, in May 2001, they issued 'God Bless The Go-Gos,' their fourth and last studio album.

In 2017, she formed Elettrodomestico alongside 'Pietro Straccia,' a new psychedelic, pop, electronic duet that performed live alongside others such as Joe Gore and Dawn Richardson. The debut album of the duo 'If You're A Boy Or A Girl' was launched independently on October 20, 2017.

"It turned out to be a lot tougher than it seems," Jane Wiedlin said of her '80s acting career, "and as much as I liked those experiences, I don't believe I'm great at it." She also appeared on VH1's 'The Surreal Life' in 2005.
