Jawed Karim is an American engineer, internet entrepreneur, and co-founder of YouTube.
He was born in Merseburg, East Germany (present-day Germany), to a father, Naimul Karim, and mother, Christine Karim. He has two siblings.
Jawed Karim was born on October 28, 1979, and he holds both German and American passports. He lives in Palo Alto, California. He graduated from Saint Paul Central High School and went to the University of Illinois and Stanford University.
He is the first person to upload a video on YouTube, which is a video of him at the San Diego Zoo. The 18-second long video is titled 'Me at the Zoo' and has garnered over 200 million views. He has gained about three million subscribers on his YouTube Channel as of 2022.

Jawed Karim has been a serial investor, investing in a lot of successful business ventures. He was one of the initial seed investors in AirBnB, participating in the company's April 2009 first seed round. The investment round was valued at $7 million. Jawed set up a venture capital fund that has made a lot of early and profitable investments. His last documented personal investment is that of Formatech, which he invested on January 31, 2020.
Jawed Karim once delivered a lecture at the University of Illinois about the history of YouTube; In 2007, he became the youngest commencement speaker at the University of Illinois.
In 2008, he started Youniversity Ventures with Kevin Hartz and Keith Rabios.
He has different published articles on programming in Dr. Dobbs Journal (DDJ) in the United Business Media US monthly journal.
He has won the Young Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2014).
