About Jimmy Page

James Patrick Page OBE, popularly known as Jimmy Page, is the founder and guitarist of the England-based rock band Led Zeppelin.

Jimmy Page is known for creating monolithic guitar riffs and his self-improvised style of playing the guitar as well as the multi-neck guitar. The greatest significance of his style was that he did not stick to one particular type of music, but rather explored various genres.

Starting off as a session guitarist in London, Page soon became a sought-after artist in Britain. Soon, he became a member of the musical group, The Yardbirds. But once they disbanded, he founded Led Zeppelin, comprising of vocalist Robert Plant, drummer John Bonham, and bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones along with himself.

Formed in 1968, Led Zeppelin is considered to be a progenitor of hard rock and heavy metal, as their music had a variety of tinges on it, including blues and folk. Within a year of their formation, Led Zeppelin produced their debut album, which was a massive success. This acclamation led them to release albums like, 'Led Zeppelin II,' 'Led Zeppelin III,' and 'Led Zeppelin IV.' In total, they released nine studio albums that made it to the US Billboard album chart, and of them, six were ranked number one. Amassing 111.5 million RIAA-certified units, Led Zeppelin is the second-best-selling band in America. In retrospect, Led Zeppelin can be termed as one of the best-selling music groups in the history of audio recording, and this can be largely credited to Jimmy Page, who was the band's producer. From various sources, it can be estimated the group has worldwide sales of over 200 or even 300 million albums.

Although short-lived, the rock band saw humongous success through their music and songs and was a revered influence in the music industry. While Jimmy Page's stardom reached newer heights, band member Robert Plant also created a legacy of his own. However, when the band's drummer, John Bonham died in 1980 in the Old Mill House owned by Page, they disbanded. Overcome with the grief of his friend's demise, Page refused to continue with music. Eventually, he went on to participate in several musical groups, like XYZ, the Firm, Coverdale-Page, the Honeydrippers, and Page and Plant, throughout the ’80s and ’90s. Also, he did live music performances in collaboration with his former band member, Robert Plant.
