In the end, he was elected and served four years as the senator from Ohio's 15th senate district.

John Kasich campaigned for office in 1982 as a candidate for Ohio's 12th congressional district. In the general election, he went on to beat Democratic incumbent Bob Shamansky. Following that, Kasich was re-elected eight more times. He served in his post from 1983-2001 in the House of Representatives.

He served on the House Armed Services Committee for 18 years throughout his time there.
