His mother was a runway model and a strong advocate for diversity in the fashion business, while his father was an antique and fine art collector. Three women reared him in Brooklyn: his mother, aunt Marta, and late grandmother Sophie. In his first ten years, Bethann Hardison saw his mother less frequently than his aunt and grandmother due to her job's regular travel obligations. Bethann Hardison put her son in acting courses at nine, even though she would push him to pursue modeling.
