Born on October 20, 1964, Kamala Devi Harris is an American attorney and democrat, who currently serves as America's 49th Vice President.

Kamala Harris is the inaugural female vice president, African American, and Asian American vice president, as well as the top female politician in the U.S. historical past. She formerly worked as California's attorney general (2011-2017) and as a United States senator (2017-2021), both as a representative of the Democrats.

Raised in Oakland, California, Harris attended Howard University and eventually Hastings College of the Law at the University of California.   She started practicing at the Alameda County District Attorney's Administration before moving on to the San Francisco District Attorney's Administration and, eventually, working at the City Attorney's Administration. Kamala Harris was later appointed San Francisco district attorney in 2003. From 2017-2021, Harris worked for the position of junior United States Senator in California. In the 2016 Senate race, Harris beat Loretta Sanchez, becoming the second African American and the very first South Asian American to represent in the U.S. Senate.

Harris ran for the Democratic presidential re-election campaign in 2020 but dropped out before the polls. Joe Biden chose her as his campaign partner, and their party defeated existing President Donald Trump along with Vice President Mike Pence in the 2020 campaign. Harris was sworn in as vice president with President Biden on January 20, 2021.

On October 20, 1964, Kamala Devi Harris was raised in Oakland, California. Shyamala Gopalan, her mother, was a Tamil Indian scientist pioneering the study of the progesterone transporter genome aided in breast cancer study. Her father, Donald Harris, was a Stanford University lecturer dean of economics, who previously came to the U.S. from Jamaica to pursue doctoral studies in 1961.

Her maternal grandparents, P. V. Gopalan, a former Indian government officer whose liberal ideas on democratization and gender equality affected her as a youngster and has had a tremendous impact on her thinking. Other kids were not permitted to interact with Harris and her sister, Maya Harris when they visited Palo Alto to meet her dad on weekdays.

After her high school graduation from Westmount High School, Kamala Harris attended Howard University. In 1982, she received a degree in political science and economics from Howard, and later, Harris received her law degree at the University of California from Hastings College of the Law, where Kamala Harris graduated in 1989.
