His father was a professor of economics at the prestigious North Carolina A & T State University. Ken spent his childhood in Greensboro, North Carolina, where his father received a doctorate degree from Wayne State University. He also has two elder sisters, the first one is Wendi Park, and the name of the other sister is unknown.
Ken Jeong studied in Walter Hines Page High School, where he participated in the quiz bowl and played violin. He was conferred the 'Youth of the Year Award' from Greensboro. While pursuing a medical degree at Duke University in the '90s, he majored in drama. In 1995, he earned an M.D degree from the UNC School of Medicine. Besides, he also attended theater classes in Los Angeles at the University of California (UCLA).
