Kevin Spraggett comes fourth in Canadian chess grandmaster after the top three, Abe Yanofsky, Duncan Suttles, and Peter Biyiasas. Just before his 20th birthday, Spraggett had reached the strength of national master.

During his first junior championship with John Macphail, Spraggett lost the game. In the later year 1984, he was qualified for the Taxco Interzonal after winning seven Canadian titles. Kevin Spraggett earned his International Grandmaster Title automatically after being in the fourth place in 1985, with Taxco winning over many more famous players.

In 1975, in Calgary, Canada, Kevin Spraggett defeated Daniel Yanofsky. Later after the early ’80s, he participated in various strong tournaments winning the World Open Champion in 1983. In a blitz playoff with world number three Andrei Sokolov, Kevin Spraggett won in Saint John. But later lost in 1989 at Quebec City.
