Keylor Navas, originally known as Keylor Antonio Navas Gamboa, is an ace soccer player who is a part of the national soccer team of Costa Rica.
The Costa Rican soccer player also represents Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain as a goalkeeper. Keylor Navas has demonstrated his agility as a goalkeeper multiple times right since the beginning of his professional career.
The goalie has played more than 100 times for Costa Rica. In fact, he has been dubbed as one of the best goalies. Keylor Navas is also known for being the best goalkeeper in the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) and has played for his nation at two CONCACAF Gold Cup and the FIFA World Cup also twice. Keylor Navas was born as Keylor Antonio Navas Gamboa on December 15, 1986, to Freddy Navas and Sandra Gamboa in Perez Zeledon, San Jose, Costa Rica. Navas' parents were relatively poor, which led them to migrate to America with the dream of making a fortune. However, since Keylor was only four years old at the time, they chose to leave him in his grandmother and sister's care. However, until he departed, Keylor's father Freddy ingrained in his son the love for soccer, resulting in little Keylor Navas playing the sport when he was merely five years old. Due to his father's support, Keylor Navas trained at the Pedregosso soccer school for about seven years.
He crossed paths with his would-be wife, Andrea Salas, at a church. Keylor Navas also has sisters named Kimberly and Keilyn. The soccer player had grandparents named Juan Gamboa and Elizabeth Guzman.
Juan would take Keylor to the training center every day when his father left him in his care. When the goalie was only eight, he became a part of a local club called Escuela De Futbol Pedregoso. The owner of the soccer club, Juan De Dios Madriz, saw potential in little Keylor and chose to admit him. Keylor Navas played for the club until he was 14 years old.
Navas also has a half-brother named Eder Navas, a soccer player who represents Saprissa.
Keylor Navas and Andrea Salas, a former Costa Rican model, are married with a son named Mateo Navas Salas and a daughter, Daniela Navas Salas. The duo met at a church in Santa Ana in 2008 and got hitched the following year in December 2009.
After quitting Escuela De Futbol Pedregoso, the eminent soccer player tried his luck at becoming a part of the local soccer team, for which his father had played a long time back. However, Keylor Navas could not make it at the time since he was not tall enough. This prompted him to travel to San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, to make the well-known soccer club, Deportivo Saprissa. However, he turned lucky this time and qualified to play his opening game for the squad, which turned out to be the beginning of his professional career where he acted as the goalkeeper from 2005-10 for about 60 matches. The soccer player was instrumental in the team securing the CONCACAF Champions' Cup in 2005. Also, he played an important part in the youth team emerging victorious in six competitions at the national level.
After his stint with the club, Keylor Navas switched to the Spanish club Albacete 2010, where he participated in over 30 games. The following year, he played for Levante, a La Liga club. Keylor Navas played his first match against Athletic Bilbao, helping the club win. After that, he played for the Valencian Club over the next three years. In 2014, Navas joined Real Madrid for a whopping amount and was credited with 12 titles while playing for the Real Madrid team.
His performance while representing Real Madrid won him UEFA Champions League titles thrice. Five years after his stint with Real Madrid, Keylor Navas joined the French club called Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. Navas proved to be the first Costa Rican to join the men's team.
Keylor Navas played for the Costa Rica team that participated in the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship that took place in Finland. In 2006, he was inducted into the senior Costa Rica national team, which was a part of the friendly European tournament. He's played against Switzerland and Austria.
The soccer player from Costa Rica made his official international debut in soccer in 2008, when his team defeated Suriname while qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and made the intercontinental play-offs. During his stint with Real Madrid, Keylor Navas bagged the UEFA Super Cup for three years. Also, the Costa Rican won the FIFA Club World Club for three years.
