Yellowman appeared in Dancehall Volcano Hi-power 1983 with other major dancehall musicians like Josey Wales, Massive Dread, Eek-A-Mouse, and Burro Banton. Yellowman's lyrics in popular songs like 'Mad Over Me', boasting, like other deejays/reggae singers, of his casual personal relationships earned him criticism in the mid-80s.
In 1987, he achieved success with his version of 'Blueberry Hill'. The album topped the charts for weeks in Jamaica. By the mid-90s, King Yellowman released various socially conscious materials. This helped Yellowman gain international fame along with notable singers like Buju Banton. During the early 80s, King Yellowman had over 40 singles. He produced up to five musical albums per year.
He re-invented himself with his musical album' Prayer.' Some of his blockbuster albums are 'Round 1' (2005), 'New York' (2003), and 'No More War' (2019). King Yellowman also appeared as a guest vocalist on the track 'Roots Rap Reggae'. He has toured various destinations such as Nigeria, Peru, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Kenya, Britain, Canada, and the United States.
It was announced in 2018 that King Yellowman would be awarded the Order of Distinction by the Jamaican government.
