Kirani James is best known as a professional sprinter who holds the Olympic gold medal and is also the world champion in sprinting on the 400 m track. The promising athlete entered the tracks at a very young age and started breaking records at 14.

Making his debut at the Intercol Games in the 200-400 m tracks, he won his first gold medal at the CARIFTA Games. Later, he scored 46.96 sec at the 2007 World Youth Championships.

The following year, Kirani James held his title at the CARIFTA Games and appeared at the World Junior Championships and Commonwealth Youth Games. Throughout 2009, the Grenadian athlete would appear in many tournaments, significantly contributing to his fame.

Kirani James started his career on the international stage through the University of Alabama, where he would break the 10-year-old record with 45.79 sec in the 400 m. In 2010, he won the World Junior Championships in Athletics, becoming one of the nine runners to win world championships at the youth, junior, and senior levels.

During his senior year at the University of Alabama, James made his professional debut at the London Grand Prix Diamond League, setting a personal record at 44.61 sec.

James set many world records during his professional career, even becoming the fastest man ever in 2011. After winning gold at the 2012 Olympics, James was hailed as an inspiration in Grenada, and a commemorative stamp and a stadium were built in his honor.
