Koji Kondo was born in Nagoya, Aichi in Japan. Even as a young boy, he wrote simple tunes for fun. He learned how to play the electronic organ at the age of five. His interest in music took him to Osaka University of Arts, where he learned music and played various instruments. He played arcade video games such as 'Space Invaders' and 'Donkey Kong' series as he felt that video games were the only avenue for the sound creation he was interested in.
