He was born on March 10, 1960, in Columbia, Kentucky. He was awarded Magician of the Year by The Academy of Magical Arts in 1985 and 1991.

A chance encounter with the magician Henry Collins at a Christmas party threw young Lance Burton into the rabbit hole of entertainment. After his neighbor gifted Lance a book, he performed a magic show for the first time in front of the neighborhood children. Henry Collins noticed young Lance's interest and devotion while performing an act. Ollins then went on to become Lance's mentor. Under his expert guidance and tutelage, Lance learned both the art and the techniques of manipulating the cards. The mastery of techniques earned him the title of The Magician's Magician. In his first competition, he secured the first position at a convention in 1977. Lance Burton was also the youngest and first American to win the Grande Prix prize on July 10, 1982.

Lance Burton was born on March 10, 1960, in Columbia, Kentucky. His mother introduced him to the world of magic at the age of five at a Christmas party. The featured magician of the show, Henry Collins asked for a volunteer, and an eager Lance Burton shot into the spotlight. The youngster was fascinated by the display of magical arts by the performer; one such ploy, The Miser's Dream, where the magician pulled out silver dollars from his assistant's ears, created a hook in his mind. Upon hearing his deep interest in the world of magic, his neighbor decided to gift him a book, 'Magic Made Easy' which her children used. He learned all the 10 tricks in the book. This started his journey of becoming a great magician.

Burton entered his first magic contest in 1977 while still a teen and achieved the first place. He received a Gold Medal of Excellence from the International Brotherhood of Magicians in 1980, just a few months after turning 20. Burton relocated to Southern California, where he made an appearance on 'The Tonight Show' within a week (on October 28, 1981). Throughout his career, Burton was called back for a total of ten shows while Johnny Carson served as host, and an additional ten shows while Jay Leno served as host. Burton has also made an appearance on Craig Ferguson's 'Late Late Show'.

His contract was subsequently extended for a record-breaking nine years after he completed an initial eight-week trial run at the Folies Bergère show in Las Vegas. Lance Burton also performed at various TV shows.
