Born on December 17, 1969, she is the daughter of actors Glenn Corbett and Adrienne Ellis. She was born in Los Angeles, California but was brought up in Toronto with her siblings Christopher Holden and Michael Anderson Jr.

Laurie Holden was born Heather Laurie Holden to television actors Adrienne Ellis and Glenn Corbett in Los Angeles, California. After her parents' divorce, her mother, Adrienne, married the director Michael Anderson, and after that, Laurie Holden was primarily raised in Toronto, Ontario. She is an older sister to Christopher Holden and also has a half-sister. She also has step-siblings from her mother’s remarriage, Michael Anderson Jr. and David Anderson.
As a child, Laurie Holden was quite bright and very talented. She graduated from Bishop Strachan School and pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Political science and Economics at McGill University. She is highly involved with children’s charities such as Feed The Children And Planet Hope. She is one of the founding board members of the Somaly Mam Foundation in Canada and among the advisory board members of its US branch. The foundation runs awareness campaigns.
Holden is not just a face in the movement but rather an active participant. In 2014, she collaborated with Operation Underground Railroad, a volunteering organization.
