After completing her education at Northwestern University, Lee Phillip Bell returned to her family to help out with their floral shop. She used to assist her brother Russell with the local television station, where he used to look after its floral arrangement. Later, Lee left her family business and pursued other positions in the station.

For the first time in 1952, Bell was offered television services to a Chicago station, licensed by the FCC as WBKB-TV Channel 4. By the end of the year, Lee started hosting a 15 min show on weekday afternoons.

'The Lee Phillip Show,' which later evolved into 'Noonbreak', was launched by Bell in 1953, alongside 'Meet Miss Lee', 'Mornin' Miss Lee', 'Lee Phillips' Chicago', and 'Shopping with Miss Lee'. In the 'Mornin' Miss Lee', she used to host the show along with sharing the weather forecast information with get-ups related to the weather.

She also used to do commercials on television during the sports telecast of basketball and football. She also has been a host for other programs such as 'The Friendship Show' between the year 1955 and 1965, and for the afternoon show titled 'The Lady & The Tiger' with Paul Gibson, who was a broadcaster and sales representative for WBBM.

Her talk show was known for tackling social issues prevalent in the country, which no one gave attention to. Her show displayed the struggles faced by the prisoners and runaways and also spread awareness about breast cancer. She has interviewed presidents Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter along with well-known celebrities such as John Wayne, Lucille Ball, and Judy Garland.

Later she along with her husband, co-created the show operas 'The Young And The Restless' in 1973, and the show 'The Bold And The Beautiful' in 1987.
