Leigh Kakaty began working on his musical career in the late '90s after moving to North Muskegon, Michigan. Initially, he was a part of a band called- TenFive with members from other disbanded Michigan bands. TenFive had Tom Grasman and Jason Reed as guitarists, James Schaap as a bassist, Dylan Allison as a drummer, and Leigh Kakaty as the lead singer. Under their independent label, Kakaty and Reed recorded the band's debut album Severn and an EP Dam Electro. Following the disbanding of TenFive soon, Leigh Kakaty founded Pop Evil with Dylan Allison.

So far, the band has released six completed studio albums- 'Lipstick On The Mirror', 'War Of Angels', 'Onyx', 'Up', 'Pop Evil', and 'Versatile'. The band is still touring the sixth one, 'Versatile'. 'Pop Evil' had signed a contract with a Universal Music Group subsidiary for Lipstick On The Mirror. The partnership did not last long, and the band broke its ties with Universal in 2011, which subsequently delayed the release of 'War Of Angels' which was released via eOne Music. UFC fighter Frank Mir was cast in the video for the first single, 'Last Man Standing'. The band released 'Trenches' in February 2013 as a part of their third studio album- Onyx. 'Trenches' not only became the band's first national single on Rock Radio but also won them an award at the Radio Contraband Rock Radio Awards.
As a part of Pop Evil, Kingston-born rock singer Leigh Kakaty won the award for the Song of the Year at the Radio Contraband Rock Radio Awards for 'Trenches' from the 2013 album- 'Onyx'.
