Lilly then went to the 2016 US Olympic trials held at Omaha and won 200 and 100m breaststroke bearth and went to the 2016 Summer Olympics, Rio De Janeiro, where she set the Olympic record at 1:04.93 for the 100m breaststroke and won a gold medal.
Lilly King then appeared at the 2017 US Nationals and qualified for the World Aquatics Championships wherein she won the 50, 100 and 200m events.
In 2018, Lilly once again qualified for the World Aquatic Championship by winning the US Nationals and won 50 and 100m breaststroke events. She also bagged 5th place at 200m breaststroke. She also took part in the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, Tokyo, where she won a gold medal in the 100m breaststroke event and silver medals in 200m breaststroke and 4x 100m medley relay.
Lilly King bagged her first World Championship medal at the 2019 event in 100 and 50m breaststroke category, setting the records at 1:04.93 and 29.84, respectively. She also created the world record in 4x 100m medley relay with Regan Smith, Kelsi Dahlia and Simone Manuel.
Her real fame came in 2019 as the inaugural member of the International Swimming League, where she was part of a San Francisco based swimming club, Cali Condors. She finished third in the final match at Las Vegas and is the only swimmer to have an undefeated record in all 16 events. She represented Cali Condors in the 2021 International Swimming League as well, where she won gold in the 200m and silver in the 50m breaststroke categories.
At the 2020 Summer Olympics, King won silver medals in the 4x 100m Medley Relay and 200m breaststroke and a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke, which was just behind American Lydia Jacoby, who won the gold. These Summer Olympics increased Lilly's popularity as she showed true sportsmanship even after not winning.
SwimSwam Top 100 (Women's) listed Lilly King at number four in 2021 and number 12 in 2022.
As a senior in college, Lilly King was bestowed with a 2019 Honda Sports Award for Swimming & Diving.
