The opportunity came when Kuwait was invaded by Iraq in 1990, leading to the two famous Operations; Desert Storm and Desert Shield. It was because of Linda Vester's knowledge of Arabic and her background in Middle East Affairs, that she was pulled from the WFLA-TV temporarily to report from Saudi Arabia for all the affiliate stations.
Vester returned to WFLA-TV at the end of the Gulf War until 1992, when she was then sent to the affiliate of NBC, WRC-TV, in a joint agreement. Vester was reporting for them on weekdays and on NBC at weekends. It was then that she gave her coverage of the White House, along with the State Department and the humanitarian disaster in Somalia.
In 1993, Linda Vester was given a promotion to full-time Network Correspondent for NBC's 'Weekend Today', that included reports from Haiti in the course of a coup d'état.
In early 1994, Vester was transferred to the London bureau of NBC, from where she covered the foreign affairs of all newscasts of the network. Her notable report was that of the genocide of Rwandan. She later produced an award-winning documentary in 2005, named 'Back Home', which was directed by Rwandan refugee, J.B. Rutagarama.
She was transferred back to the United States again in 1996, to report from the Chicago bureau of the NBC. In 1997, she got a promotion to the position of Anchor on 'Sunrise', on NBC News, so moved to New York, where she also hosted the afternoon news coverage on MSNBC.
Linda Vester was then hired by the Fox News Channel in 1999, to anchor the afternoon news. Vester notably covered parts of the live coverage of the 9/11 attack, and anchored an exclusive interview of O.J. Simpson.
In 2003, Fox News started a novel news program, 'DaySide with Linda Vester'. Vester took maternity leave in July 2005.
Linda Vester is a trustee of the prestigious Institute of International Education, which provides the popular Fulbright Scholarship, of which she herself was once a recipient.
