Lori Lee Petty was born to a strict Christian family in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
After graduating from North High School, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska to work as a graphic designer. Lori Petty lived in Omaha for several years before moving to New York City in pursuit of acting opportunities.
When in New York, she took acting classes to become an actress while going onto the streets, searching for jobs to make ends meet. Soon, Lori Petty moved to Los Angeles to become an actress where she would do numerous mediocre television roles and movies including the 1987 classic remake of 'Bates Motel' and as Suzanne Dunne in the 1989 series 'Alien Nation'.
Lori Petty had her film debut when she starred opposite Robin Williams in the 1990 film 'Cadillac Man'. Following this, she starred alongside Patric Swayze and Keanu Reeves in the 1991 classic, 'Point Break'. After the success of 'Point Break' and 'Cadillac Man', Lori Petty reached new career heights. In 1992, she was cast along with actors Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna in the classic baseball movie 'A League Of Their Own'. She also played a kind-hearted trainer in the 1993 family movie 'Free Willy'. She portrayed the role of Christine Jones in the 1994 drama movie 'In The Army Now'. In 1995, she played the title role in a film adaptation of the British cult comic 'Tank Girl'. At the close of the decade, she appeared in numerous movies and TV series such as 1996's 'Countdown' as Sara Daniels, and 1996's 'Superman' and 1997's 'The New Batman Adventures', both of which were animated series. In 1998 she was in 'Relax...It's Just Sex' as Robin Moon, and appeared in 'Brimstone' as the Stone's Hotel owner. In 1999 she also acted in 'The Arrangement'.
After her success in the '90s, Lori Petty took a different route in the entertainment industry at the start of the millennium. In 2001, she starred in two action films, 'Firetrap' and 'Route 666'. After this, she appeared in a string of movies and TV shows such as 'Prey For Rock & Roll' (2003), 'Cryptid' (2006), 'Broken Arrows' (2007), and 'Prison Break: The Final Break' (2009). She also played the recurring character of Lolly in the Netflix comedy-drama 'Orange Is The New Black' (2013 - 2019). In 2020, she was seen in the movie 'A Deadly Legend' where she portrayed the role of Wanda Pearson. She also directed the moved 'Poker House' (2008).
