Lyudmila Alexandrovna Ocheretnaya married Vladimir Putin in 1983 and was the first Lady of Russia through her ex-husband's entire first term in office as the President of Russia from 2000-2008.
She was also at his side when he served briefly as Russia's Prime Minister from 1999-2000. Lyudmila Aleksandrovna is said to be married to her long-time friend, businessman Artur Ocheretny.
Although little is known about Lyudmila and her family, the Kremlin did release a statement on the amicable divorce between herself and the then-newly-elected president. Within the first year of Vladimir Putin's second election as President of Russia, Lyudmila Alexandrova was quoted as saying that the marriage had broken down because she hardly ever saw her then-husband. Although she has not confirmed this publicly, she has officially changed her last name.
Even though Lyudmila maintained a relatively low profile as the Second and even the First Lady of Russia, she's still recognizable worldwide.
Little was known about Lyudmila's income and spending habits when she was known as Lyudmila Putina and married the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin. However, her activities after the divorce have shed light on the former First Lady's net worth.
Exact figures on the former First Lady's net worth are inconclusive.
During her last year as First Lady, Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ocheretnaya was obligated to share her annual income as stated by Russian legislation. Her per-year earnings are under review as of 2022.
Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ocheretnaya is of average height at 5 ft 4 in (165 cm).
Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ocheretnaya was born in 1958, making her 64 years old as of 2022.
Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ocheretnaya was born Lyudmila Shkrebneva in Kaliningrad in what was then known as The Soviet Union.
Little is known about her early life with her parents, Alexander Shkrebnev and Yekaterina Shkrebnev.
She graduated from Leningrad State University, where she studied Spanish and philology. After graduating, she became a flight attendant for an airline (Aeroflot) and was based in her hometown of Kaliningrad.
While working as a flight attendant, Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ocheretnaya ( Lyudmila Shkrebneva at the time) was introduced to Vladimir Putin, a Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti (KGB) operative at the time.
They married in 1983, and Lyudmila Putina returned to Leningrad State University, where she taught German and philology while supporting her husband's political ambitions and raising two daughters, Mariya and Yekaterina.
She supported her then-husband through his extensive political career until 2013 when their divorce was officially announced.
By the time her divorce from Vladimir Putin was announced, Putin was already rumored to be romantically involved with a Russian Olympic gymnast.
After the official announcement of her divorce from Vladimir Putin in 2014, Lyudmila Putina stepped out of the spotlight, the same spotlight she later blamed for the end of her marriage.
Records revealed later that she had changed her name from Lyudmila Putina to Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ocheretnaya.
Without any announcement, Lyudmila Putina changed her last name officially and became Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ocheretnaya after reportedly marrying 44-year-old Artur Ocheretny, a businessman who had been her friend for many years.
There were no reports on her wedding and marriage, and no records are available to the public in Russia. However, it is assumed that the two are married.
Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ocheretnaya graduated from Leningrad State University with a bachelor's degree in Spanish and philology. Her first job after graduation was as a flight attendant for Aeroloft.
After she met her ex-husband Vladimir Putin, she became the Moscow representative for Telecominvest while teaching German and philology at Leningrad State University, where she had earlier graduated.
As the First Lady, she followed her passion for language. She became a curator for a fund that financed research about the development of the Russian language at The Russian Academy. When the research results were presented in 2002 (contrary to her belief that language should be preserved and not developed), Lyudmila Alexandrovna Ocheretnaya rejected them sighting economic reasons.
Lyudmila Alexandrovna Ocheretnaya is known widely as Vladimir Putin's ex-wife. Before then, she was the Second Lady of Russia when her now ex-husband was the Russian Prime minister and became the First Lady when he was appointed as the president until their divorce in 2014.
Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ocheretnaya was instrumental in the founding, funding, and growth of the Centre for Development of Interpersonal Communications (CDIC) in 2000. The CDIC was started to help alleviate the social and societal issues faced by the people of Russia.
She received the Germany Laureate of the Jacob Grimm Prize in 2002
The Laureate of the Rukhaniyat prize of the International Association for the Rebirth of Spirituality in 2002 under the Educator of the Year category.
In 2005, she received the Golden Warrior medal.
Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ocheretnaya is passionate about languages, research, and education which is evident in her career and the choice of causes she supported. Because Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ocheretnaya has always been a private person and still is, little is known about Lyudmila's personal life and what she did outside of her role as Putin's wife.
