Her talent aided in attracting offers from numerous groups and ended up performing for American Ballet Theatre in their Summer Intrusive programs. She was a part of the Summer Intrusive programs in 1999 and 2000. Her time at the Summer Intensive Program was on full scholarships and she would be named ABT's National Coca-Cola Scholar in 2000.

She was a part of a production of 'Don Quixote', where she played the role of a gypsy and a flower girl.

Following this, Misty Copeland would be selected to join the ABT Studio Company but due to the insistence of her mother, she returned home in order to finish high school.

Misty Copeland would be a part of several ballet productions. She would play a role in 'Swan Lake'. She played a double role in 'Swan Lake' of Odette and Odile. One of these roles was of a princess.
