Momoko Kōchi was a Japanese film, stage, and television actress.

Momoko Kōchi's debut role was in 'A Woman's Heart Released'. She is most recognized for her appearances in the original 'Godzilla', as Emiko Yamane, and in 'The Mysterians', she played Hiroko Iwamoto.

Numerous films on IMDb have been highly rated and recommended, with Momoko Kōchi as a lead character. Her role as Emiko, a young girl, was successful.

In January 1998, there was a confirmation that Kōchi suffering from colon cancer. Her disease was spreading quickly. But due to lack of time on her schedule, she was not able to have surgery soon after diagnosis. Her final performance occurred one year earlier, on December 15, at Tsuruoka, Yamagata. Kōchi remained in the hospital until her death from colon cancer on November 5, 1998, at the age of 66. She was at the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center in Hiroo, Shibuya. On October 29, a week before her death, she was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church by Father Masahiro Kond. Her funeral was conducted at St. Ignatius Church on November 9, 1998. Yanaka Cemetery in Taito, Japan, she is buried.

In April 1953, Momoko Kōchi joined Toho under their New Face program. Ishir Honda spotted Kōchi while working on Godzilla, a science fiction film with a current narrative. Honda cast her in the lead female role in the movie as Emiko Yamane. While her character acted as the focal point of the film's love subplot, it also functioned as the catalyst for the main plot's resolution. Despite her lack of acting experience at the time, her role was exactly what she had hoped for, and she performed admirably.

Once Chi became popular in the Godzilla series, Chi was typecast in subsequent science fiction movies such as Half Human and The Mysterians. She departed from Toho in 1958 to pursue official acting lessons, which she did not obtain upon her first discovery in 1953.

Kōchi joined Haiyuza Theatre Company one year after leaving Toho films to pursue professional acting training with Tsutomu Yamazaki and Kumi Mizuno. She then made her stage debut as a stage actress in Japan in a play called 'William Shakespeare's: Twelfth Night'. Kōchi had a few appearances in TBS drama specials that were written by Sugako Hashida and produced by Fukuko Ishii. Takao Okawara allowed Kōchi to resume her role as Emiko Yamane in the upcoming movie 'Godzilla vs. Destoroyah' in 1995 in Japan.

  • On December 31, 1957, Momoko Kōchi traveled to Sao Paulo alongside another Toho actress, Machiko Kitagawa, to celebrate the launch of Toho's branch in Brazil. They then traveled to New York City, New York, to participate in a Japanese film exhibition. They returned to Japan on February 12, 1958. Global travel liberalization was still in progress at the time, so their excursions to So Paulo and New York City were quite useful.
  • In Ishirô Honda's 'Godzilla', she played Emiko Yamane in 1954. Kōchi played the character again forty years later in 'Godzilla vs. Destoroyah' in 1995. It was her final film role before passing away from cancer in Tokyo.
