Natasha Shanta Reid, best recognized by her Korean name Yoon Mi-Rae, is a South Korean rapper and vocalist of American descent.
Yoon Mi-Rae had a challenging childhood while being raised in South Korea. Moreover, this did not hinder her from emerging as a very successful artist.
Yoon Mi-Rae embraced her Korean heritage after moving from Texas to South Korea and changed her name to Yoon Mi-Rae. Today, Tasha is labeled as the first South Korean female emcee and grandest female rapper. She is frequently compared with Western musician, Lauryn Hill due to her ability to swing between hardcore rap effortlessly and soulful R&B. Yoon Mi-Rae is a rapper and hip-hop music composer in South Korea with her music and top-performing songs such as 'Touch Love'. Yoon's music career began at the age of 16 when a World Record collection official saw her performing away from the audition room. He immediately signed her to the new Korean hip hop group, Uptown, and the group launched in 1997. However, Yoon Mi-Rae (known as Tasha Reid) left the group in 2000 following the criminal charges claims against her former members.
Yoon Mi-Rae founded the hip hop and R&B group Tashannie with rapper Lee Soo-a in 1999 with the stage name of Annie. They released a single album titled 'Parallel Prophecies'. However, later Yoon Mi Rae went on to pursue her solo career. In 2001, she began her solo career by releasing her debut album, 'As Time Goes By'. The next year, in 2002, her second album, 'Gemini' was released and her third album, 'To My Love'. She gained fame as a solo artist and went on to create more songs and albums.
In 2006, she joined the label, Jungle Entertainment, which her husband, Tiger JK formed. The next year, Yoon Mi-Rae's album 'T3 - Yoon Mi Rae' was released, where she discussed the challenges encountered as a mixed-race Korean musician. That same year, she performed in Seoul, South Korea, alongside Amerie, an American singer of American and Korean descent.
Yoon signed a one-year contract in 2012 to appear in print and radio advertising for the computer brand, Hewlett-Packard in Korea. Yoon Mi Rae also served as a judge during the third and fourth seasons of 'Superstar K's' talent competition.
With the song 'Touch Love' from the South Korean drama 'Master's Sun', Yoon topped Billboard's Korea K-Pop Hot 100 chart in September 2013.
In 2013, Yoon, Tiger JK, and Bizzy founded the hip hop group MFBTY (My Fans Better Than Yours). Shortly after its release, the group's first single, 'Sweet Dream', topped three Korean music charts. The song premiered at a concert in Cannes, France. Later that year, MFBTY signed with Tiger JK's newly founded Feel Ghood Music label.
That wasn't it; Yoon created more exemplary music and released a single, 'Angel', in December 2014, which immediately rose to the top of four Korean music charts.
Yoon Mi-Rae has been very charitable and has used her platform for the good of others. Yoon has encouraged multiculturalism awareness among Korean households and even volunteered at a multicultural youth camp for seven months in 2018.
Yoon Mi-Rae and her husband are also closely involved with charity and awareness organizations for child abuse and are active child abuse campaigners. In 2011, they participated in a photo shoot with their son for the Stop Child Abuse And Love Children campaign in Vogue, Korea. While performing at the 2011 Child Abuse Awareness Concert, they taped a public service announcement for World Day For The Prevention Of Child Abuse.
In 2012, the Ministry of Health and Welfare of South Korea congratulated the pair for their efforts to prevent child abuse.
