His father, Ryota Horigome also happened to be a skateboarder who later quit his profession when he married Yuto's mother. Yuto has two younger brothers. The young boy started skating when he was only seven and it was his father, a longtime street skateboarder, who taught him how to skate. Horigome began traveling to the United States for skating tours when he was 14 years old, eventually settling in Los Angeles, California, where he still lives.

Soon Yuto became a member of the 'Blind Skateboarders Team' and continued working with them until early 2019. In May 2019, Yuto Horigome joined the 'April Skateboarders,' a skating team owned and operated by Shane O'Neill. Under the leadership and guidance of O'Neill, Yuto Horigome flourished into a pro skater.

With 62,480 points, Yuto came in second to American skateboarder, Nyjah Huston's 67,080 points in 2019 in the World Skate Olympic Rankings. When the WS Olympics resumed in 2021 after the pandemic, Yuto Horigome held onto his second position. His points increased to 249,200, while Huston led the men's ranking with 269,900 points.
