Moose are one of the largest in all of the deer species and family. Moose have long faces with muzzles that dangle over their chin and a flap of skin, called the bell, which sways beneath the throat of these moose. Moose are tall, and this is why their preference is always to graze the higher grasses and shrubs. Lowering their head at that height becomes difficult. During winter, they eat pine cones and shrubs. They also scrape snow with their hooves. These hooves also act as snowshoes for them to support their body in marshy and muddy ground. When the ice melts, they move towards lakes, rivers, wetlands to feed on aquatic plants, both above the surface and below. Moose love water, and despite their heavy body, they are great swimmers. They feel at home inside water and can paddle several miles.
