Tadpoles are the babies of frogs, which go through several life transformation processes to become an adult frog. These free printable tadpole coloring pages resources can encourage kids to learn more about tadpoles and their characteristics. A tadpole is the larva stage of an amphibian creature, known as a frog. Tadpoles are mostly aquatic in nature and they are good swimmers. Tadpoles of many species are terrestrial too. The females can lay between 1000-2000 eggs, which usually float near the water surface. The male and female do not mate for life, since after mating the male usually leaves the female to search for a new mate. Tadpoles do develop features such as lateral line, gills and tails mostly found in the amphibians. Slowly and gradually when they go through the metamorphosis stage, their diet changes and they start inhaling and exhaling air. Tadpoles often have a globular shape with the compressed tail. It helps them to swim into the lateral undulation. They have soft but slimy skin and lack the mineralized hard tangible parts, yet fossils of around 4 in (10 cm) in length have been recovered from Upper Miocene strata, which are preserved by the biofilms.
