The city of Durham is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in the entire country, home to two incredible feats of architecture built almost a thousand years ago. Elsewhere in the county, the North Pennines is a certified Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. These lush hills are found in the western part of the county, and is an incredible place to hike and explore. And while the undulating hills of the Pennines dominate the region’s western areas, the eastern part of the county is home to an incredible coastline. County Durham beaches are a lovely place to visit, especially towns like Seaham and Horden.

There are also plenty of fun things to do in County Durham’s major towns and cities, such as Darlington and Hartlepool. Many of the towns in the area are home to beautiful architecture that spans centuries, such as Bishop Auckland Castle, which was built in the 12th century. Whether you’re looking to explore the magnificent natural areas or the vibrant urban areas, there’s something for everyone in County Durham.
