 With Kids

Essex is a county in south-east England, situated between London and the North Sea. Home to Loughton, Basildon, Chelmsford, and Roman Colchester, Essex has something for all the family to enjoy.

Whilst Colchester is famous for its tourist attractions Colchester Zoo and the Norman-era Colchester Castle, the county offers plenty more to discover. In the south-west of the county, lies the 18th-century Hylands House set amid vast parklands. And, to the north of Essex, is the medieval market town of Saffron Walden, featuring the Jacobean estate Audley End House and Gardens.

You won’t be short of things to do in Essex as there is plenty to discover. There are some fantastic places to have Afternoon Tea in Essex, so you can relax while sampling some delicious snacks and drinks. Or, if you’re a nature lover, there are many places to partake in Essex bird sightings, with various parks and green landscapes dotted around the county.

For history buffs, there are fantastic National Trust sites in Essex, like Northey Island, Paycock’s House and Gardens and Hatfield Forest.

If your kids are animal and wildlife lovers, don’t miss out on visiting Essex Wildlife Trust where you can learn all about the behaviour of our animal friends. If you’re feeling peckish, there are plenty of options, like the Grange and House of Delight, which are some family favourites.

Essex is easily accessible; approximately one hours drive and train journey from London, making it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
