The world-famous city of Oxford is the ideal place to visit with your family, with its wonderful mix of ancient and modern. Oxford is known primarily for the presence of Oxford University and its compelling history as one of the most renowned and oldest universities in the world. Although there is no clear date of foundation, teaching has existed at Oxford University in some form since 1096. Poet Matthew Arnold nicknamed the city 'the City of Dreaming Spires' because of the architecture of the 38 Oxford colleges in the city’s medieval centre.

There is so much to see and do in Oxford. Oxford museums are some of the best in the UK, including the must-see Ashmolean Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of the History of Science. The city is also home to the 1000-year-old Oxford Castle and Prison, where you can dive into history. The Oxford Botanic Garden is the oldest botanic garden in the UK and is well worth a visit with your kids too, with its beautiful and compact green space.

A hive of culture, Oxford is also home to many fantastic cafes and restaurants, you will never be stuck for somewhere to eat. Atomic Burger is the place to go if you enjoy nachos, pizzas, burgers and hot wings.

Located in Oxfordshire, it takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to drive to from London to Oxford. Oxford Park and Ride is very useful and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and vehicles can even be left overnight. You can get a direct train from London Paddington to Oxford in as little as 57 minutes, and if you want to save some money and take a coach directly to Oxford city centre, the Oxford Tube takes approximately 120 minutes from London. It leaves from strategic locations within Oxford and London and operates every day.
