Mauraders were a group of four boys belonging to the Gryffindor house of the Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry. They were James 'Prongs' Potter, Sirius 'Padfoot' Black, Remus 'Moony' Lupin, and Peter 'Wormtail' Pettigrew. They all had Animagus forms, the skill of morphing into an animal. The Animagus form of James was a stag symbolizing power and nobility. Sirius took the form of a black dog, symbolizing courage and vigilance. Remus could morph into a wolf, symbolizing valor and inner struggle, and Peter's Animagus form was a rat symbolizing impurity and sneakiness. Peter betrayed the Marauders and informed Voldemort about Potter's hiding place, leading to the death of James and Lily Potter. He also tricked everyone and made Sirius look like the traitor leading to his arrest. Remus also thought Sirius to be the traitor. Later Peter faked his own death and remained a rat for 12 years to protect himself. Harry learned about the Marauders for the first time when he met Remus.
