According to preterism, the events described in Apocalypse were ones that John and his first-century readers said would "soon take place".
Though the term apocalypse is associated with disaster, life, God, and war, some ideologies intercept it differently. Many authors see the apocalypse as motivating and believe it has a deeper meaning.
Although the Greek term apokálypsis, from which the word apocalypse is derived, signifies a 'revelation', the apocalypse has come to be frequently used as a synonym for a calamity. According to John J Collins, it is "a genre of revelatory literature with a narrative framework in which a revelation is mediated by an otherworldly being to a human recipient, disclosing a transcendent reality which is both temporal, insofar as it envisages eschatological salvation, and spatial insofar as it involves another, supernatural world."
The apocalypse is designed to interpret present, Earthly conditions in light of the supernatural realm and of the future and to affect both the comprehension and the behavior of the audience by means of divine power, Collins added in a subsequent revision to his description.
Futurists typically interpret chapters four through 22 of 'The Book Of Revelation' as describing historical occurrences that will take place in the distant future for John and the churches of Asia Minor. These events would include a final crisis period, preceded by Jesus' return to create his kingdom on Earth, judge evil, and usher in the new creation. Read these apocalypse quotes from famous people.
