Desiring material goods is not always a bad thing.

It is normal for people to desire things that will make them happy and content. In fact, this is one of the primary reasons we aim for success.

However, wanting more than you can afford or need can make things more difficult. When our appetites spiral out of control, we usually stumble and lose our sense of contentment. We begin to feed our materialistic inclinations, and eventually, they take over, making us resentful, selfish, and greedy.

We must constantly remind ourselves that physical things cannot provide true happiness. Even though we require a few things to survive, consumerism is not the way to a happy, fulfilling existence. Read on about material things quotes to help you control your want for more.

Any euphoria we gain from our material gains is fleeting at best."

- 'Tuesdays with Morrie', Mitch Albom.

"Changing the external conditions of your lives - earning more money, being in better physical shape, having another partner, or traveling more - will not change how you feel. It never works because the emptiness is not around, is within. The only way to come back to life is to acknowledge that little voice rising from your heart and begging you to return to love, to return to truth."

- Dragos Bratasanu, Ph.D.

"Happiness doesn't necessarily lie in material things. You just have to put yourself in a position to be happy. If you can do what you love for a living, that's a good start."
