In May 1983, the members of Bannzil Kwéyòl held a meeting to declare October 28 as international Creole Day to celebrate and study French Creole languages.
The origin of Creole was in 1981 when Creole Day was first celebrated in the streets of Dominica.
The traditions and customs followed during this day are to wear traditional dresses by both males and females to school, work, and streets. Display of various local cuisines can be seen on the streets. The local dialect called French patios or Kweyol is spoken all day.

Men can wear black pants, a white shirt, and a red sash around the waist. People can enjoy the liveliness of the event by educating and participating in musical, theatrical, and other acts.
Creole Day is an island-wide celebration to bring people together to define culture in all its artistic components.
