At Kidadl we pride ourselves on offering families original ideas to make the most of time spent together at home or out and about, wherever you are in the world. We strive to recommend the very best things that are suggested by our community and are things we would do ourselves - our aim is to be the trusted friend to parents.
We try our very best, but cannot guarantee perfection. We will always aim to give you accurate information at the date of publication - however, information does change, so it’s important you do your own research, double-check and make the decision that is right for your family.
Kidadl provides inspiration to entertain and educate your children. We recognise that not all activities and ideas are appropriate and suitable for all children and families or in all circumstances. Our recommended activities are based on age but these are a guide. We recommend that these ideas are used as inspiration, that ideas are undertaken with appropriate adult supervision, and that each adult uses their own discretion and knowledge of their children to consider the safety and suitability.
Kidadl cannot accept liability for the execution of these ideas, and parental supervision is advised at all times, as safety is paramount. Anyone using the information provided by Kidadl does so at their own risk and we can not accept liability if things go wrong.
Around the world, the day is commemorated in various ways. Every year in April, the Day Of Silence is observed. It was founded in 1996 to raise awareness about the negative consequences of harassment and bullying of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
The LGBTQIA+ community and allies all around the world commemorate the Day Of Silence.
In 1996, the Day Of Silence was established. Although a few school districts oppose the day, most of them support it and actively encourage participation through LGBTQIA+ alliance groups within the school.
A few University of Virginia students originally organized this day. The Day Of Silence is a peaceful demonstration against a problem that affects all students, regardless of gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.
Timeline Item 1:
The LGBTQIA+ community and its allies are using the same silence they have been subjected to on the Day Of Silence to raise awareness about the challenges they confront and promote LGBTQIA+ rights. Participants observe silence in support of the LGBTQIA+ community and engage in silent campus marches and demonstrations.
Encourage anti-bullying and dialogue-building programs. To show how harassment silences the victim, take an oath of silence on this day. Give your schools a learning atmosphere that is both helpful and encouraging. You can also use online media to raise awareness of the prejudices the LGBTQIA+ community face.
Several local organizations frequently organize Day Of Silence initiatives and events.
Students who participate take a day vow of silence on this day.
Anyone may participate in the Day Of Silence; flyers and rainbow or other pride motifs are used to spread awareness.
The GLSEN Day Of Silence is a nationwide student-led event in which LGBTQIA+ people, including students and allies from all across the nation and the world, pledge silence to increase awareness about the devastating impacts of LGBTQIA+ harassment and discrimination in schools.
April 23, 2021, was designated as the National Day Of Silence.
You get the right to remain silent at school throughout the non-instructional period, but not during class when a teacher requests that you talk as part of classroom participation.
Participants who participate in Day Of Silence frequently pledge silence during the academic day, giving students 'speaking cards' explaining why they are not talking today. An example is this: 'Please know my motives for not speaking today.'
The most fundamental requirements are to register your involvement and alert your school's management and parents about it.
This event is encouraged by all LGBTQIA+ students and allies.
